About this Opportunity
As a Competitive Intelligence Manager, you'll lead and develop Herman Miller's Competitive Intelligence Team. You will enable an in-depth understanding of the competitive environment and key market opportunities in the North American market. You'll also prioritize and guide competitive intelligence data gathering and analysis to support the strategic planning process and meet the needs of Product Management and Sales organization stakeholders.

  • Develop and manage the Competitive Intelligence Team to execute the competitive intelligence strategy.
  • Direct/complete primary and/or secondary research, analysis, and synthesis of information to support key internal stakeholder needs, including: strategic planning; understanding the competitive landscape, competitor profiles, market position, SWOT analysis, strategies, and selling tactics (Sales Team); competitive positioning and product gap analysis (Product Management); and priorities and project justification (Design and Development).
  • Lead the team to develop, analyze, and maintain key competitors' product offering comparisons. You will act as an internal consultant to stakeholders to identify competitive opportunities and threats and share findings with Product Management and the Sales organization.
  • Provide competitive insight and guidance to the Win/Loss Analysis Program.
  • Provide competitive analysis support for organizational training initiatives.
  • Develop a network of competitive intelligence research vendors tasked with gaining key competitive information at an industry, manufacturer, and product level.
  • Guide the planning, execution, and analysis of competitive intelligence gathering during appropriate domestic and international trade shows.
  • Partner with international counterparts to understand competitive intelligence in the region and the potential impact on the North American market as well as global customer accounts.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have...

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Market Research, or a related field. An MBA is preferred.
  • Five years of related analytical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A thorough knowledge of Herman Miller products, services, and culture, as well as the ability to distinguish Herman Miller products and services from the competition.
  • An understanding of the Herman Miller customer and sales process.
  • Strong experience in analysis, research, and competitive intelligence.
  • Product management/marketing experience and a proven ability to develop competitive components for business plans and field-facing tools.
  • A demonstrated ability in critical thinking and the analysis of competitive strategies and business and market trends.
  • A proven ability to interact and influence executives in a dynamic business environment, including formal presentations.
  • International experience.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including coaching/team building and team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to influence and work with peers within a highly matrixed environment.
  • Excellent research and information gathering skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • The ability to be highly organized, results-driven, self-motivated, and innovative with relevant product, technology, or industry knowledge.
  • Strong team collaboration skills.
  • The ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools used in the Herman Miller office environment.
  • The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
