The Director, Accounting Research & Policy, will serve as a technical accounting subject matter expert with respect to the company’s generally accepted accounting policies. This position will have responsibility to manage the processes and internal controls associated with the identification, documentation, communication and implementation of proposed and new accounting standards, and the accounting for complex financing, mergers and acquisitions and other new and unusual transactions. The position reports to the VP & Assistant Controller.

Core Responsibilities

+ Develop and maintain company’s accounting policies to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards

+ Research and evaluate the accounting for new and/or proposed transactions

+ Review documents and identify the accounting issues and propose solutions or alternatives

+ Consult with Comcast, business units and external auditors on technical accounting matters and the application and development of accounting policies

+ Document and communicate the accounting for the transactions (both technical and operational accounting considerations)

+ Assist in the preparation of financial reporting disclosures (MD&A and Footnotes) for completed transactions

+ Prepare and present monthly transaction summary

+ Liaise with outside auditors on accounting topics

+ New accounting standards

+ Proactively monitor, review, research and interpret GAAP and analyze emerging accounting pronouncements for policy/financial statement implications

+ Develop interpretations and communications related to new accounting standards and guidance

+ Lead or partner with corporate groups or business units in the implementation of new standards

+ Liaise with outside auditors on new standards

+ Present and train our management and staff on new standards

+ Develop responses to standard setters’ exposure drafts and other proposals

+ Assist in the preparation of financial reporting disclosures (MD&A and Footnotes) for new accounting standards


Basic Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance

+ CPA required

+ Minimum of 7+ years of work experience in a big four accounting firm or significant accounting policy setting organization or corporate accounting experience

**Desired Characteristics**

Bonus Points if this describes you

+ Knowledge of IFRS and key differences between US GAAP and IFRS

+ MBA is a plus

+ High degree of technical proficiency required

+ Experience with performing complex accounting research and technical activities

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to interact with various levels of finance personnel and be able to explain complex accounting in succinct manner; a good listener

+ Superior project management skills. An ability to multitask and work on several projects, ensure processes are followed and deadlines are met

+ Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and project management skills
