**Job Summary**

The Buildings & Places division of AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Director of Interior Design for immediate employment in the Southfield, MI or Detroit, MI office. The appropriately qualified candidate will be responsible for the management and growth of an interior design and corporate workplace practice. This position would lead the interior design practice for the Southfield and Grand Rapids offices and Michigan region and report to the Managing Principal, Michigan.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

POSITION DESCRIPTION

+ Leads the design and project planning of interiors projects within the two B+P offices in Michigan.

+ Works closely with Midwest regional design leadership to assure that Michigan interiors practice is cohesive and cutting edge.

+ Ensures quality client service delivery over the client lifecycle

+ Maintains advance knowledge of industry trends within the ID marketplace

+ Attends national conferences and leads thought leadership in interior design and corporate workplace strategies.

+ Works closely with Owners and stakeholders to plan and strategize their building and design needs

+ Pushes the envelope on industry trends and thoughtful execution of interior environments

+ Responsible for project design quality; champions initiatives and motivates staff to raise quality of deliverables

+ Works closely with project architects and designers develop and execute architectural concepts through the interior design.

+ The correct candidate will have a passion for beautiful and contemporary interior environments and be a student of composition, color, balance and rhythm

+ Have strong preference and understanding of current workplace strategy and effective and thoughtful design implementation

+ Strong sense for materiality and cost associated with interior environments

PROJECT OVERSIGHT

+ Reviews project contracts and develops proposed work plans for new projects

+ Reviews and approves interior project budgeting

+ Facilitates periodic project design reviews

+ Manages project staffing needs and assignments; approves weekly timesheets

+ Works with the Project Manger to monitors project profitability

+ Acts as an expert resource in project, client, consultant, and contractor project issues

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

+ Acts as a mentor by coaching and motivating teams and individuals; fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust among members of the group as it grows and develops

+ Ensures staff evaluation; responsible for performance development, compensation decision-making and allocation processes

+ Supports diversity, programs and develops continuing education opportunities (e.g. site visits, lectures, road trips) to expose design staff to influences which will stimulate design creativity and innovation

+ Participates in interviews and recruiting of professional staff

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

+ Assists in development and successful execution of annual business plan for the Interiors discipline

+ Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities in the Corp Workplace, Hospitality, Healthcare, Sports and Entertainment markets.

+ Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships. Listen for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated

+ Develops and maintains positive relationships with consultants, contractors and jurisdictional/approval agencies to increase market and community stature resulting in increased potential business opportunities

+ Assists in development of interior design labor estimates, and evaluates market value of services for fee proposals during proposal preparation

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Participates with other Interiors Directors in firm-wide activities

+ Works closely with local office principals, Operation Directors, and Business Managers

+ Participates in local or state professional associations, maintains active membership, and attends conferences.

+ Takes personal responsibility for fostering a health & wellness environment and green workplace through sustainable work practices

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture

+ 10+ years of experience with an architectural and/or interior design firm or division, with at least 3 years in a similar type director or management position

+ Ability to create strong graphics presentations which communicate and effectively compel the client to make decisions which favor high quality environments.

+ Registered Interior Designer or Architect with current license

+ LEED Green Associate Accreditation required (within twelve months of employment)

+ Ability to manage business operations with a collaborative leadership style which puts value on relationships, both internal and external

+ Ability to think strategically, implements change, enforces policy and resolve conflict

+ Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, budgets

+ Proven ability to prioritize oneself and the work of others in order to meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients

+ Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients

+ Proven ability to masterfully present, effectively sell design concepts

+ Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

+ Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines

+ Knowledge Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IDP)

+ Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign graphic software or other graphic software suites

+ Proficiency in the basic technical skills of interior design including the following computer skills:

+ MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project

+ Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ 15+ years experience with at least 5 years in a similar type operations management position

+ NCIDQ certification

+ Management knowledge of Revit

+ Management knowledge of 3D Modeling software such as Sketchup, 3dsMax and Viz 2006
