**Job Summary**

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in the Germantown, MD office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Support field sampling and reporting for large environmental projects for both Private and Federal sector clients at sites across the United States

+ Oversee and work productively with junior staff as well as subcontractors, assuring all work scopes and safety requirements are met

+ Conduct field work outdoors year-round

+ Performs field tasks, such as soil descriptions, sampling, testing, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, stream sampling, etc

+ Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems

+ Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and potable water

+ Prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork

+ Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations and prepare scientific documents

+ Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines

+ Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment

+ Gather and interpret chemical and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports, compiles and organizes environmental data collected by others

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelors degree in environmental science, geology or other related discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, environmental engineering)

+ 4+ years of experience

+ Experience in conducting site investigations, field and historical records data collection/ organization, interaction with clients and regulators

+ General knowledge of environmental principles and geologic systems

+ Understanding of conceptual site models

+ Proficiency in standard office suite software applications

+ Ability to compile data and information from historical records, interviews, and field investigations

+ Ability to interpret data and convey complex thoughts and ideas in clear, concise written form

+ Ability to learn through on-the-job experience as well as mentor less experienced staff

+ Ability to independently lead tasks and perform environmental sampling as part of large, complex environmental programs

+ Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds

+ Travel will be required, including out-of-state short-term overnight stays

+ Must be able to safely drive a full-size pickup truck

+ Must be comfortable with air travel

+ Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

+ Must possess a valid driver’s license

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ 5+ years of experience

+ General understanding of local/state/federal environmental regulations and experience working with regulators, conducting interviews, document research, and compiling data

+ Strong organizational skills

+ Experience mentoring less experienced staff

+ 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
