Develop and present accurate weathercasts which are consistent with station mission and branding, and are also appealing to a mass audience.Expands weather brand reach on digital platforms. Develop weathercasts to attract the largest available audience. Updates website daily, writes weather blog, updates social media. Performs public appearances as directed by station management.
Essential Job Functions:
60%-Prepare and anchor interesting and informative weathercasts with station brand and research in mind.
15%-Analyze and assimilate various forecasting models in local, zoned weather forecast.
15%-Make public appearances on behalf of the station including but not limited to First Warn Five Weather Road Shows.
5%-Updates website daily, writes weather blog, updates social media.
5%-Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements - All must be met to be considered:
College degree in Meteorology
Experience as a broadcast meteorologist at a commercial television station.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
AMS or NWA seal required. Knowledge of weather, complex computer-driven weather production systems and weather patterns for Mid Michigan. Strong communication skills. Strong planning and organizational skills. Must know how to interact with anchors, producers and reporters. Must know how to adlib an effective weather story using maps, radar and other visuals. Must be flexible and willing to work unexpected hours for severe weather.
