Specifically aspects such as investing, finance, executive leadership, entrepreneurship, personal finance and wealth.

The role will report to the Managing Editor of CNBC Digital.

Responsibilities of the Politics Editor will include, but are not limited to:

-"Own" politics coverage, steering a small-but-growing team that reacts quickly to breaking developments by taking reports live online succinctly and accurately, and to update those stories as facts become available.

-Analyze developments by spotting the angles in each that serve as compelling catalysts for coverage, and putting CNBC's own, unique stamp on stories from Washington and beyond.

-Forge the political team into a unit that employs original reporting from Digital and CNBC TV, as well as contributions from partners including NBC News.

-Establish and enforce best practices for the politics team, including story selection, headlines and abstracts, in ways that first serve the interests of readers, but also optimize the exposure those stories will receive through search engines, partners and social media.

-Tell stories in video, in text, through data-driven graphics—or a combination of all three. The Politics Editor will conscientiously package stories in compelling ways.

Communicate closely with CNBC editorial leaders in Singapore and London.

-Exhibit leadership chops and the ability to successfully navigate a large and often complicated organization. The Politics Editor will coordinate with colleagues in the larger CNBC news-gathering apparatus to align reporting and maximize depth and breadth of coverage.

-Minimum 8 years of experience in journalism

-At least four years focusing on politics, working in digital journalism and multiple years in an editorial leadership capacity.

-Possess unrelenting drive to identify and deconstruct the underlying dynamics of American political power and how they affect governance, investment, businesses and voters.

-Exceptional leadership, coaching, & mentorship ability

-Proven ability to work with teams from product and technology to generate ideas and deliver compelling and competitive digital products.

The job will likely be based in Washington D.C., but require frequent travel to New York and CNBC offices in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.

-Awareness of the key individuals and important institutions in Washington, and how those people and institutions interact. That familiarity includes, but is not be limited to, people in the cabinet and senior department/agency leaders in the executive branch; the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives from both parties, including the heads of important committees; and the justices of the Supreme Court.

-A firm grasp of how policy affects domestic issues, in particular those related to economics: taxes, trade, education, infrastructure, the environment, regulation and the interests of both U.S. businesses and U.S. voters.

-Familiarity with the legislative process and the basics of Constitutional law.

-Knowledge of important regional and state-level issues and how they affect voters' concerns

-A macro-level understanding of transnational issues and how they are shaped by the United States, other countries' governments, and international institutions.
