About this Opportunity
As a Senior CAD Designer - Product Development, you'll be responsible for supporting Product Development by working in conjunction with Engineers on specific piece part and assembly design through the use of CAD solid modeling, Finite Element Analysis, and tolerance analysis tools within a team environment.

  • Communicate frequently with Engineers and Managers on your assigned project teams.
  • Create accurate engineering specification drawings and models with minimal direction to assist Engineering.
  • Make changes and modifications to existing CAD drawings and models to support specification maintenance.
  • Manage all CAD activities within a project.
  • Participate in internal and external CAD user groups.
  • Participate within the project and work team environments.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Set an example for others in your attitude and in the high standard in the quantity and quality of your completed work.
  • Work to improve your technical and organizational skills through continuing educational, training, and learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to strategic CAD initiatives with an emphasis on either Solid/Surface or Programmatic Modeling.
  • Mentor new talent by teaching CAD and PDM knowledge and skills.
  • Develop and share next generation Creo Parametric techniques and processes.
  • Coordinate and contribute to all CAD-related deliverables on major scope design and development initiatives.
  • Develop and contribute to new processes and techniques.
  • Create complex assemblies utilizing advanced techniques to lay out multiple variations of component and product layout interfaces to support your assigned projects.
  • Provide complete support and develop additional functionality with Herman Miller Windchill tools.
  • Provide complete support of Source Tree PDM activities for maintaining Smart Assembly Code.
  • Manage the Master Model and Top Down Design aspects of your assigned projects.
  • Create Engineering Specification CAD Models and drawings per Herman Miller and industry standards.
  • Create and present next generation Engineering Specification standards and guidelines.
  • Problem-solve and pioneer next-level CAD and Engineering tools and processes.
  • Work effectively and seamlessly with all external Engineering partners.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with all internal and external business partners using verbal and written tools and technology tools.

You might be just who we’re looking for if you have...

  • A Bachelor's degree in Applied Arts (preferred) or equivalent education and professional experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of professional CAD experience with experience leading large CAD projects.
  • Proven experience working on a cross-functional team.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently used in the Herman Miller office environment, with a basic understanding of the current CAD systems used within the functional area.
  • High personal performance standards, the desire and ability to continuously learn, and a results-oriented work style.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional presentation skills.
  • An openness to new ideas and technologies that enable Drafters to work and communicate in new ways.
  • The ability to work cooperatively both in a team environment and independently.
  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude in addressing concerns.
  • The ability to be an assertive self-starter with the self-confidence and ability to represent Herman Miller in a professional manner in order to gain a high level of confidence from internal and external contacts.

  • The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
  • An expert ability to function in Creo Parametric, which includes component parts, assembly and product models, instances, and drawings.
  • An expert ability to function in Creo Parametric and Creo Direct Surfacing.
  • An expert ability to create and modify Class A surfaces.
  • An expert ability in Herman Miller ProProgram to manipulate sub or product assemblies.
  • An expert ability to modify ProProgram components and all associated databases for work surface or tile maintenance or part creation.
  • An expert ability to build product applications within Smart Assembly in support of complete product engineering specifications.
  • An understanding of intermediate Manufacturing, Engineering, and Industrial Design acumens in creating and revising engineering specifications.
