Your Role

As a Senior Design Manager/ Operations Leader, it’s your job to manage all phases of projects, including project set-up, design, and construction administration. You will also assist with overall financial management of the Mexico City office.


What You Will Do

Design Manager Responsibilities:

  • Manage all phases of projects, including project set-up, design, and construction administration.
  • Create and communicate clear and attainable project objectives and project requirements.
  • Manage project scheduling, staffing/productivity, budgets, and set-up with clients, sub-contractors, vendors and consultants.
  • Track financial performance of projects.
  • Prepare project proposals, negotiate contracts and fees, coordinate bidding process.
  • Ensure projects conform to contract.
  • Manage across practice areas – experience of workplace, retail and building renovations/architecture desirable.
  • Experience with recruiting, mentoring and coaching talent.  Highly organized and responsive.
  • Currently involved in a leadership position within the firm (to create network and global account connections and opportunities).


Operations Responsibilities:

  • Assist with overall financial management of the Mexico City office.
  • Working closely with Office Directors, monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the office relating to all staff, business and financial operations including budgets and profitability targets for the Mexico City office.
  • Oversee billing and fee management operations in the office and ensure all financial activities are consistent with Gensler policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for accounts receivable accountability, discretionary expense budget management, expense report approvals, held time monitoring, productivity projections and review.
  • Ensure staffing is up to date and all technical staff maintain billable targets.


Your Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related experience, including demonstrated success as a project manager on various project types, and 2+ years at Gensler
  • Bachelor of Architecture or Interior Design, or foreign equivalent
  • Experience in corporate interiors projects preferred
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, grace and style
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy
  • Experience leading, managing and mentoring multiple project teams
  • Experience negotiating project scope and fees
  • Proven fiscal accountability and responsibility on various project types
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication and relationship management skills
  • Must have the ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships
