Role Purpose:

The Video Features Editor/Host reports to the Editor-in-Chief, Syfy Wire.


We are looking for a Video Features Editor/Host who can ideate, write and edit 2-3 video scripts per day, be they original pieces or parts of larger franchises, snackable or multiple minutes in length. This position would also be responsible for editing – for consistency of tone and voice – scripts authored by others.

When the creative calls for it, the candidate should be willing to appear as a host or on-air narrator of the works they have scripted, as well as be comfortable appearing on-camera for works scripted by others. Additional on-camera responsibilities may include streaming initiatives (Facebook Live) or event coverage.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

+ Ideate, craft and execute video franchises or individual videos – including scripting and asset collection - and imbuing them with knowledge and, where appropriate, levity.

+ Punch up and edit videos authored by other staff for consistent tone and voice.

+ Write 2-3 articles per day with a similar style, tone and POV as displayed in original videos.

+ Present, on camera, a variety of creative initiatives including news reports/updates, primers, rankings, listicles and original editorial pieces. Must be able to convey the creative in an accessible, knowledgeable, creative and compelling way regardless of the authorship.

+ Serve as a Syfy Wire correspondent as needed at events such as conventions, premieres or for many on the street interviews.

+ Perform other duties as required.


Basic Qualifications

+ Minimum 2 years experience writing and editing digital videoEligibility Requirements

**Desired Characteristics**

+ Deep and broad knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, pop culture in the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres across multiple media – primarily film, TV, comic books, games and literature.

+ Ability to quickly research and write about any of the above with which you might not be intimately familiar.

+ Funny, clever, entertaining and informed editorial voice based in a love of the genres we cover.

+ Ability to juggle multiple deadlines and multi-task

+ Comfort interviewing and speaking with people of all levels of prominence, from TV stars to a man on the street.

+ Strong social following

+ Ability to actively engage in social outreach and engagement with fan communities online

+ Performance based background, preferably in comedy

+ Superior writing and communication skills with a passionate POV

+ Collaborative attitude
