We are looking for 2 apprentices to join our Water Engineering team in Croydon. Communities around the globe are challenged to find effective ways to manage water throughout the water cycle restoring the water we use to continue sustaining the natural environment. At AECOM, our Water specialists work together worldwide to find innovative solutions to the management of water.

Our work includes, Flood Management, Integrated Catchment Management, Hydraulic Modelling, Hydrology, Sustainable Drainage, Water Sensitive Urban Design, Dam & Reservoir design, Hydro-power, Mains Infrastructure Design (Clean and Foul), Non-Infrastructure Design (Pumping Stations, Storage Tanks), and Hydro-power.

Our AECOM water teams have worked on projects such as:

+ Chester Zoo – Using 360 ingenuity, AECOM designed unique drainage strategies complementing the attraction’s natural aesthetics, including a bespoke Orang-utan proof filter trench and reed beds that treat runoff from the Banteng enclosure.

+ For the Jeddah Stormwater Drainage Programme AECOM delivered fast-tracked solutions including 10 flood-protection dams and 170km of channels and conduits to protect the city’s 3.5 million residents.

+ During Northern Ireland Water’s Integrated Wastewater Framework AECOM delivered services from concept to commissioning on a £150M capital programme involving new wastewater treatment works and major wastewater infrastructure upgrades throughout Northern Ireland. Services included feasibility, design, contract management and site supervision.

+ The Grampian Growth Model was initiated by Scottish Water in response to the substantial levels of development activity predicted across the region over the next 20 years. AECOM successfully built a large scale computerised model of the mains network for use as a hydraulic tool to assess the impact of the growth and develop sustainable measures to ensure all customers, both existing and future, continue to receive the highest possible level of service.

Working on a wide variety of projects with a variety of clients ensures real opportunities for personal growth and career progression as our apprentices & trainees develop professionally within a positive culture where learning and development is actively supported and promoted. Responsibilities may include:

+ Production of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings

+ Preparation of simple civil calculations

+ Undertaking graphical design and desk top publishing

+ Supporting the administration of projects, including maintaining records

+ Assisting with data review and analysis

+ Ensuring outputs are accurate and meet the required standards

+ Meeting agreed deadlines

+ Working as a member of a team

+ Contributing to providing solutions to technical engineering problems

+ Assisting with site visits to collect information or observe existing projects

Our Structured Training Excellence Programme (STEP) is designed to recruit school-leavers who show commitment, aptitude and enthusiasm, into science, engineering and technology careers with us. You will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and must be willing to progress your career. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at a Further Education College to study a BTEC Level 3 or HND in a relevant discipline which would be funded by AECOM. Your NVQ Level 3 will be achieved during this time through your work experience.

Driven by the successful completion of BTEC Level 3 or a HNC the successful applicant may want to continue their studies at a higher level. AECOM fully expects this and is keen to develop and nurture its talent. For those wishing to progress their education AECOM may continue to support individuals through an appropriate part-time BSc/BEng degree course to support you towards Incorporated Engineer status and subsequently Chartered Engineer status.

**Minimum Requirements**

No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to

school leavers at either GCSE or A-Level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:

+ Minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade ‘C’ or above (or equivalent such as Scottish Standard Grade, or Junior Certificate in Ireland), including Mathematics & English

+ Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software

+ Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Water Engineering

+ Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.

+ Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic

+ Ability to demonstrate attention to detail

+ Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects

+ English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
