As a Workplace Knowledge Consultant, you'll work strategically with Regional and/or Global Sales Teams and the A D community, primarily in the "orange" portion of the sales process interpreting the customer's workplace strategy into Herman Miller product solutions. You will deliver knowledge-based expertise and consulting that adds value to the customer, deepens relationships, contributes to sales of both products and services, and differentiates Herman Miller as a knowledge leader and solution provider.

  • Achieve and maintain technical proficiency. You will attend technology specialist, ergonomic, and evolutionary workplace training sessions and coordinate and leverage learning efforts with others at Herman Miller responsible for similar programs and processes in different regions and markets.
  • Combine expertise in organizational development, workplace solutions, real estate/facilities, and design for the benefit of customers and Herman Miller. You will provide a full range of expertise and deep-dive consulting to customers in the areas of organizational development/human systems, employee engagement, real estate and facilities, design/work environment solutions, and analytics based on quantitative studies of the work environment.
  • Conduct activities in support of small to medium projects. Typical assignments will provide exposure to complex customer activities.
  • Contribute to projects, initiatives, and service line development. You will consistently and regularly apply new knowledge in customer engagements. You'll also monitor market trends and conditions and ensure Herman Miller is the industry leader on relevant, leading-edge best practices.
  • Cultivate strong relationships, identify or develop new customer solutions, and deliver customized versions to meet specific engagement requirements. You will translate information from Marketing, Research, and other internal groups into work environment solutions for customers.
  • Develop and/or oversee the preparation of highly detailed customer presentations.
  • Learn, maintain, and deliver service offerings, leading a full range of performance environments services for customers, including: visioning, space utilization services and analysis, pre/post-occupancy workplace evaluation, place mapping, financial modeling, survey data, report creation, synthesizing complex data, developing comprehensive recommendations for customers, and change management.
  • Leverage intellectual capital to position Herman Miller as the thought leader regarding the workplace. You will align with the Herman Miller Sales Team, the local dealer, and other internal groups to recommend services as required.
  • Maintain Herman Miller data collection and analytics systems as appropriate.
  • Maintain the Performance Environments brand integrity and consistency in all content and deliverables.
  • Manage vendor relationships and performance. You will identify and develop relationships, obtain vended services, and ensure quality, timely completion.
  • Manage within the assigned expense budget.
  • Manage the consulting portion of all engagements as needed. You'll be accountable for building a sound business proposal (including income and cost estimates), writing contracts, and achieving margins. You may also write comprehensive customer reports.
  • Participate in client presentations and project meetings by providing leading edge expertise on a variety of topics that enhance the customer experience. You will also engage with customers to identify needs.
  • Participate in cross-functional assignments.
  • Participate in strategic planning, link engagement goals to clients' business objectives, and create buy-in for deliverables.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Take responsibility for knowledge transfer to internal and external audiences via case studies, white papers, published articles, and presentations. You may also serve as a keynote speaker in your area(s) of expertise.

You might be just who we’re looking for if you have...
  • A Bachelor's degree in Interior/Architectural/Facility Design, Organization Development, or a related field of study from an accredited program. An equivalent level of experience typically acquired through five years of working in a directly related area will also be considered. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Four to six years of experience in human resources, interior design, space planning, or facility management.
  • Two to seven years of successful experience in management consulting relationships.
  • A thorough knowledge of organizational development, human systems, and employee engagement practices.
  • Knowledge of organizational culture and the ability to apply this knowledge to the work environment.
  • An advanced knowledge of workplace trends with an in-depth knowledge of Herman Miller research, data, and processes.
  • A thorough knowledge of Herman Miller services (both with the dealer and within Herman Miller corporate).
  • A demonstrated ability to lead, influence, solve problems, and work with all levels in the organization, including executive leadership.
  • The ability to be an assertive self-starter with the self-confidence and ability to represent Herman Miller in a professional manner to gain a high level of confidence from a diverse group of customers.
  • A demonstrated ability to build long-term relationships with customers and business partners, particularly at senior decision-making levels across an organization.
  • Highly developed task and relationship building skills, including the ability to manage multiple client relationships. You'll also need a high level of responsiveness and flexibility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong emphasis on listening, including proficiency in creating and delivering impactful presentations to a variety of audiences. Technical writing skills will also be helpful.
  • High personal performance standards, the desire and ability to continuously learn, and a results-oriented work style.
  • A demonstrated high level of integrity and business ethics.
  • Financial literacy and business acumen.
  • Proven organizational, planning, and project management skills with demonstrated follow-though and results. You'll also need the ability to ensure timely and phenomenal quality deliverables.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently being used in the Herman Miller office environment.
  • An ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • The ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
