DoSomething.org Engineering Fellowship 2020-2021

Reporting to: Director of Engineering

Start Date: March 1, 2020 | End Date: February 28, 2021

DoSomething believes in the power of young people. They can create movements. They can influence their peers, their families, and their elected officials to make a tangible impact. They can literally change election outcomes. The imperative first step? Voting.

DoSomething.org is uniquely positioned to lower the barriers of voter registration and get out the vote for this massive audience in the 2020 election cycle regardless of race, age, income, location, or political party — we have 5 million youth members (and counting) who we already speak with on a weekly and monthly basis. We aim to get millions of youth to the polls in 2020 through our work under this initiative

The latest Harvard IOP Youth Poll reports that the youth voting block will be even more important in the 2020 election than it was in 2016, and we want to use our technology platform to make that voting block as large and loud as possible. DoSomething Engineering Fellows will work on realizing this goal by supporting our civic engagement initiatives that focus on mobilizing young people to advocate, protest, attend town hall meetings, get out the vote, vote, and everything in between

Enough about us, what about you?

Our fellows possess a few key traits:

  • Professional software development experience Fellows have at least 2 years of full-time development experience within production environments.

  • Collaborative Fellows are able to actively engage with their teammates as an equal partner, motivator, and mentor. They openly and directly provide and ask for feedback, and understand how to move the team forward to make progress

  • Self-motivated. Fellows are self-motivated, resourceful and creative about problem-solving, and know when to ask for help when they need it

  • Believe in ALL young people. Fellows share our belief that all young people have the agency to create social change

How many Fellows do you select?

We accept 2 fellows for the 2020-2021 cohort

The Perks:

  • The ability to mobilize 5 million+ young people to change the world (need we say more?!)

  • 3 weeks vacation plus the week between Christmas and New Year's (plus Summer Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day!). Plus, no work on your birthday, Valentine's day, and you get a half-day on Halloween. If you're in costume. Seriously

  • A fun office environment, a Gong, disco ball, brownie bake-offs, spontaneous Hamilton references, and the best coworkers you could ask for

  • An incredibly compelling reason to wake up and make it to work every day

Who We Are

Our digital platform is activating millions of young people to create an offline impact in every US area code and in 131 countries. Our members have clothed half of America's homeless youth, cleaned up 3.7 million cigarette butts, run the world's largest youth-led sports equipment drive, and so much more. Now, we're taking 25 years of expertise in activating America's youth around over 300 national social change campaigns, and focusing it towards the single action that affects every single cause: voting.

Wait, I have more questions that aren't answered above!
