Analytics Implementation Developer

The Digital Insights & Strategy team is responsible for data-driven, strategic thinking and insight across multiple touch points at CMG. Specifically, we:
• Lead the development and evolution of our CMG’s digital measurement platforms
• Derive insights from research and data
• Develop insights that inform digital strategy
• Provide a holistic view of performance across experiences and channels
• Support CMG business units in understanding digital audience data

The Analytics Implementation Technical Lead will be a key contributor in maintaining the integrity of the analytics framework across CMG products and will report to the Manager, Analytics Architectures. Daily responsibilities include working with CMG’s tag management system to implement the analytics tools and work with various groups to ensure proper implementation of analytics tools on all CMG products. This includes Google Analytics tracking across hundreds of products, as well as other tools such as Chartbeat, Optimizely, login services, etc. Success means accurate, up-to-date and robust implementations that provide high-quality data across enterprise.


Partner with business stakeholders to understand analytics goals and collaborate with the technical resources, both external vendors and in-house developers, throughout the implementation process.
• Communicate any issues, status updates, and resolutions across the various teams, allowing greater transparency to all associated stakeholders.
• Coordinate working session(s) with the technical resources to ensure that the information provided is fully understood by those individuals completing the development work

Create technical documentation and other resources for analytics implementation
• Provide technology teams with the technical implementation documentation based on business requirements.
• Proactively learn about current analytics tools to create knowledge and resources for all of CMG

Diagnose and troubleshoot analytics platform configuration issues
• Understand general aspects of Google Analytics implementation (e.g. dimensions, metrics, variable mapping, plug-ins, server call types, cookies, link tracking, gtag)
• Troubleshoot tagging issues, documenting the details associated, testing the potential solution and ultimately deploying a complete resolution

Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the digital analytics system by continually monitoring tags, both manually and with automated tools.
• Complete user acceptance tests (QA and reporting confirmation) of new & modified implementation plans and/or products
• Run ongoing monitoring programs, such as Observepoint, to proactively identify errors in the tagging across various analytics tools

Provide day-to-day system administration for analytics tools
• Conduct audits of analytics tools and tag manager tags, performing clean-up of any existing tags and coordinating with various business teams to remove tags after the deployment period has expired
• Manage users and integrations across multiple tools
• Execute Selenium scripts to update Google Analytics interfaces, allowing for consistent application of the UI across the accounts
• Use a tag manager to deploy pixels/scripts for business initiatives and projects


• General understanding of JS, HTML, CSS, Python and standard development tools
• Ability to troubleshoot complex problems and identify process improvements
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to share results in a clear and compelling manner with a variety of business business stakeholders
• Attention to detail in all aspects of the job
• Ability to learn quickly and identify key concepts independently
• Collaborative work approach with clients and members of the team
• Understanding of digital tracking and metrics

• 5+ years of experience with code implementations and debugging/QA experience, preferably with analytics tools.
• Experience with analytics tools and reporting (e.g. Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, WebTrends, etc)
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate information – both written and verbal – to multiple audience types.
• Ability to quickly master tracking software of third-party vendor applications from various analytics and advertising technologies such as Chartbeat, Optimizely, Krux, comScore, Nielsen, Facebook, and others.
• Ability to quickly shift between responsibilities that demand longer term strategic vision and immediate tactical decisions/work.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred. Master’s degree or equivalent work experience a plus.
