The Opportunity (Nationwide - Chicago Preferred)

Reporting to the Managing Director, Digital Platform Technology the DevOps Engineer will lead efforts around automating operations and functions that increase the quality of and shorten the development lifecycle for technologies across all platforms under team management.

Responsibilities:

Across all platforms under team management:

  • Design, build, test, and deploy highly scalable and resilient cloud-based applications on private and public clouds in Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud environments.
  • Lead efforts around automating operations and making developed code easily automatable, operable and maintainable.
    • Work on continuous builds and integrations and ensure the repeatability and stability of build
    • Review requirements specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  • Design, implement, and maintain monitoring for all components of application, infrastructure, and deployment.
    • Build monitoring/alerting systems and dashboards that inform engineering and product team
    • Build and maintain the scalable and generic cloud infrastructure used by the team and its partners, where applicable
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
  • Focus on computer science, computer engineering, and/or information technology desirable
  • Three plus years of progressively responsible software engineering and DevOps experience
  • Nonprofit tech experience a plus

Required Technical Competencies and Experience

  • Hands-on implementation experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery in Azure DevOps (VSTS/TFS), Jenkins, and/or Bamboo (or another similar tool)
  • Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. ARM, Terraform).
  • Automation experience - very good scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Groovy, etc.)
  • Understanding of cloud ecosystem and leading-edge cloud emerging technologies.
  • Project experience using an Agile methodology (e.g. Scrum)
  • Performance analysis, troubleshooting and remediation techniques.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving ability.
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a virtual project team.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset, enthusiastic about learning new technologies quickly and applying the gained knowledge to address business problems.
  • Microsoft Certification a plus.
