WHO WE ARE:

As a nonprofit, we’re driven by the belief that our democracy works better when more people participate in civic life and when our campaigns and nonprofits are powered by the people they serve. That’s why we’ve built a powerful online fundraising platform for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot, progressive organizations, and nonprofits. Our tools make it possible for anyone to build a grassroots campaign or movement and give donors an easy and secure way to support their favorite candidates and causes.

Since 2004, campaigns and organizations across the country have raised over $5 billion using our tools, with an average contribution size of around $35. Thousands of groups from presidential candidates to environmental organizations to local school board members count on our fundraising tools to fuel their organizing work.

Our team has a big impact on the future of our country. Each and every one of us is fully committed to our mission, and to growing our tight-knit community of political activists, tech experts, customer service pros, and more to build a team that is ready to take on even bigger challenges as we look toward Election Day 2020 and beyond.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Communications and Marketing Department is the keeper of ActBlue’s brand and mission. We work on internal and external communications, including but not limited to our two blogs, our support website for our users, our email program, our social media channels, our trainings and events, and our press work. We are seeking an experienced digital fundraiser to join our department as a thought leader and content creator focused on grassroots fundraising strategy!

This role will primarily write, edit, and coordinate content to help the campaign and organization administrators who use our fundraising platform build better small-dollar donor programs. You will be responsible for our support website, new feature launches, and strategy-focused blog posts. You will also be a resource on digital fundraising best practices for the entire organization! You will join our team at a crucial moment in the 2020 election, so you can expect to hit the ground running by contributing to digital fundraising training content and sharing actionable advice for admins right away.

The Communications and Marketing Department is highly collaborative, fast-paced, and friendly. We have high standards because we are always thinking about how our work affects the small-dollar donor movement at large, but we also value humor, especially as we stay connected while remote. You will report to the Deputy Director of Communications and Marketing and work closely with managers and writers in the Communications and Marketing Department, as well as our tech team and other colleagues across the organization who work on external projects and relationships.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Plan, edit, and coordinate all blog posts focused on digital fundraising strategy, often contributing your own posts. Our posts are read by thousands of candidates and organizations!
  • Work directly with product managers and software engineers in the feature development process, giving feedback on tools and the language used to describe them based on grassroots fundraising best practices and our internal style guides.
  • Coordinate the external communications for product updates and feature launches with our tech team, customer service experts, and colleagues who directly support admins.
  • Oversee support.actblue.com and keep it as up-to-date as possible for the thousands of fundraisers and millions of donors who rely on its information.
  • Serve as a thought partner for our email program, our training team, and our social media team, so all of our external communications and resources are aligned with online fundraising best practices. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our training experts and help them create high-quality content for candidates and organizations building small-dollar programs across the country!
  • Create other practical resources on small-dollar digital fundraising for our users as needed.
  • Copy edit blogs, support articles, and other projects.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • Dedication to ActBlue’s mission of empowering small-dollar donors
  • 4+ years of experience in political or nonprofit small-dollar digital fundraising, including writing and sending fundraising emails, list building, paid ads, and training other fundraisers — the more recent, the better!
  • Strong understanding of ethical digital fundraising best practices
  • Proven writing, editing, and feedback skills
  • Willingness to learn the ropes of product development from a marketing standpoint
  • Interest in technical writing and customer service
  • Passion for collaboration and the ability to recognize other working styles and how best to work together
  • Project management experience, including proven multitasking and prioritizing skills
  • Clear, compassionate communication skills — written and verbal
  • Problem-solver mentality: the ability to identify problems and figure out how to work through them with others
  • Self-starter working style
  • Strong organizational skills and an interest in creating better systems and processes
  • An understanding that attention to detail from the beginning pays dividends in the end
  • Commitment to building actively anti-racist systems, projects, and teams

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Native Spanish speaker, or fluent Spanish speaking, writing, and editing skills
  • Familiarity with AP Style
  • Product or tech experience
  • Technical writing experience
  • Customer service experience
