Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer for our Boston office, who wants to apply their passion and enthusiasm towards exciting and challenging projects supporting the US Army Corps of Engineers for Government Missile Defense Agency Programs and other high profile clients. We help shape the world around us from complex building designs such as radar and tactical support facilities, administrative, operation and maintenance facilities to large campus style projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and engineering of fire protection and life safety systems and building code consulting for buildings within multiple sectors including Federal, Municipal, Industrial and Commercial sectors.

  • Fire/Life Safety Code analysis

  • Perform surveys to ascertain conditions of existing facilities

  • Perform studies to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of design alternatives, and recommend alternatives for implementation

  • Develop designs for a wide variety of projects, as well as, providing services during the construction phase

  • Design various fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, municipal, industrial and military facilities

  • Develop technical specifications, plans, elevations, section and details

  • Prepare design related calculations

  • Verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices

  • Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed

  • Perform condition assessments, site visits, and construction inspections as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience.

  • 8+ years of experience as a Fire Protection Engineer

  • Registration as a licensed fire protection engineer (FPE)

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

  • Ability to obtain US government security clearance

  • Excellent AutoCAD and REVIT skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse team in a fast paced complex environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Detail-oriented and technical, yet experienced enough to see the big picture

  • Experienced, self-directed professional

  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with solid writing and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of work

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collegially; engage in open dialogue with project team, across the organization, and with external providers

  • Ability to meet quality, schedule and budget expectations

  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing project requirements and deadlines.

  • Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment

  • Manage timelines, be proactive and communicate project progress to stakeholders

  • Highly detail orientated, organizational skills in order to balance and prioritize multiple deliverables

  • Highly developed analytical skills, excellent critical thinking, and problem solving skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Relocation benefits are not provided for this position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree

  • Experience designing projects for the US Army Corps of Engineers with knowledge of UFC Standards, ProjNet, Scheduling and cost engineering.

  • Plumbing and HVAC design experience.
