PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

This position develops, manages and executes all media relations, employee communications, executive communications, social media, analyst relations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies and plans for the global SAP SuccessFactors organization, including all communications activities for the SAP SuccessFactors President. While some functions may virtually align to this position, the communications strategy planning and executive of SAP SuccessFactors is the responsible of the head of Communications.

The Head of Communications for SAP SuccessFactors work closely with all the respective global and line of business functions to ensure the communications from the business is integrated into broader communications plans. Key stakeholders for the head of Communications include, but are not limited to, the SAP SuccessFactors marketing, product, operations, sales, legal and leadership teams; SAP Global Marketing, the global HR communications team; the Cloud Line of Business communications team, GCO regional communications. The candidate in this role will constantly challenge and improve the effectiveness of SAP’s strategic communications functions and activities across the region.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

  • Develop, maintain, and execute an ongoing strategic communications plan to continue to promote and position SAP SuccessFactors as the leader in the HCM space.  Must develop a clear understanding of the goals and business objectives of the company and align all communications programs to the company’s overall strategic business plan across all regions.  Produce and review content for the President and respective management leaders as appropriate, including speeches, internal memos, press releases, white papers, keynote presentations, and important stakeholder correspondences as required.
  • Ensure consistency of brand positioning by managing messages and by closely integrating related communications activities across all communications disciplines. Provide counsel to senior management to enhance the brand and reputation, and align public relations with marketing strategies to maximize effectiveness of communications activities in a one platform message.
  • Work in close coordination and collaboration with the President’s office, the Marketing Team, and other relevant departments as needed.
  • Reporting to the Chief of Staff of the Office of the President and serving as a member of the SAP SuccessFactors senior leadership team, work closely with other members of senior management to lead and coordinate priority-level activities. including: internal communications, external speaking opportunities, media and analyst interactions, etc. 
  • Advise on how to best leverage time, internally and externally.  Work with the communications team to create and develop presentations, speeches, talking points, thought leadership initiatives and other related materials that are designed to persuade, inspire, educate, and inform internal and external audiences.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

At least 12 years of directly related global experience in a corporate or agency setting managing communications teams, and the proven ability to navigate through a larger, matrix, globally dispersed organization required. A Public Relations or Journalism background is preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • The Head of Communications, SAP SuccessFactors must be an outstanding professional who is passionate about communications. This candidate will have experience running and/or managing communications teams (agency or corporate) across geographies. He/she must have proven media relations skills and employee communications experience. 
  • This individual will be a dynamic business manager and a world-class communications professional, who can motivate and lead others.  He/she must have outstanding strategic planning skills, a solid understanding of business relationships, and the knowledge, intellect and temperament to work at the highest levels in a corporate environment.  A high degree of personal initiative, as well as outstanding interpersonal, collaboration, listening, verbal, written communications and process facilitation skills, are absolutes. 
  • Must exhibit the ability to work in an evolving environment and balance the needs of various internal and external stakeholders; high tolerance for rapid change and stress; flexibility and steady temperament.  Tolerance for ambiguity.  Must be collaborative in nature and capable of building consensus and strong working relationships within a matrix organizational structure.  SAP encourages a team environment and the attributes of humbleness combined with confidence express that sentiment. 
  • This person should be innately creative and flexible in nature.  It is equally important that he/she be a “roll up your sleeves” contributor.  Absolutes are a proven ability to effectively, see through implementation, manage high-profile communications, with the ability to make sound judgments and produce compelling content quickly.
  • Candidate must possess strengths in understanding communications strategies that support driving internal cultural change towards a high-performance environment.  Knowledge of the software/technology infrastructure sector or a comparable sector, facing complex, global internal/external communications issues, required.
