What if you really can change the world? If you are passionate about solving problems and are compelled to use your skills to create software products and services; build and lead a new team; and impact the lives of people and living marine resources, here is your opportunity. Apply here:https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/577893700.

We are the Alaska Fisheries Science Center (www.fisheries.noaa.gov/region/alaska) of NOAA Fisheries. We study marine life and marine ecosystems to ensure the sustainable use of living marine resources in U.S. waters. To obtain the best available information scientists use apps and algorithms (AI and ML) on research ships, airplanes, and autonomous unmanned vehicles to collect oceanographic and biological samples in remote areas. We work collaboratively with the fishing industry to collect information on fish caught each year in commercial operations. We then input collected data into sophisticated models, for example, to help predict the future fish stock size. Fishery managers use our data to set sustainable catch limits and protect whales, seals, and sea lions around Alaska.

Software products and services are essential for monitoring the health and sustainability of fish, marine mammals, and their habitats across nearly 1.5 million square miles of water surrounding Alaska, which produces more than half of the fish caught in the United States, worth $1.8 billion. We also work in the Arctic.

This position offers you a rare opportunity to invest into building and leading a development team, apply various problem-solving approaches (offline-first, design thinking), use project management methods (agile/scrum), and frameworks for the client-side, server, and database software development and delivery(progressive web apps) to make a big difference toward the stewardship and management of the nation's living marine resources and their habitats.

This is a federal position with great benefits, working with the best scientific teams, and is located in beautiful Seattle, WA. You can apply and attach a resume here: https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/577893700.  With a direct-hire authority the application process is simple and straightforward.  Remember to indicate the number of hours worked per week, this is how the system calculates if you have at least one year (2080 hours) of past experience as a developer!
