ADP is hiring a Lead QA Engineer for NextGen Payroll!

The Lead QA Engineer provides quality assurance support for the development and delivery of the ADP Payroll Innovation (Next Gen Payroll) Product and leads complex projects.  


As a Lead QA Engineer, you will write and maintain test plans, test scenarios and test cases for complex payroll projects. You will participate in Feature Mapping and SBE Mapping sessions to gain clear understanding of assigned features.  You will create Release Test Plan, perform environment preparation tasks and coordinate testing activities across the whole team.  You will analyze file layout documents to understand business requirements and adds/updates test scenarios as needed. You will perform testing and validates test results against requirements to ensure product/features meet design specifications and functionality requested by users and publishes results. You utilize SQL, Sequel Pro, POSTMAN, Text Comparator, Jenkins and other tools to accomplish technical tasks.  You will identify, communicate, and document discrepancies encountered during the testing process, and enter, review and update software defects in Jira defect tracking tool.  

The Lead QA Engineer takes ownership of and ensures software releases are certified in a timely manner with high quality.  You will research/troubleshoot issues identified in production, replicate issues in multiple environments, communicate resolutions and workarounds to involved teams.  You will foster a team atmosphere, and clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message. You will consistently strive to improve processes at team, business unit and company level, and work to achieve the highest levels of personal and organizational performance to meet or exceed business goals.  You will demonstrate strong analytical, leadership and verbal and written communication skills, and deliver presentations to individuals or groups as needed and present ideas effectively (including nonverbal communication and use of visual aids) suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.  You will collaborate with fellow associates/supervisors/departments, and share knowledge and skills to achieve goals and facilitate issue resolution.  You will also train and mentor less experienced QA Engineers.

To thrive in this career, you will have 7+ of software quality assurance experience and test planning and coordination.  You will have experience working in a large international development team environment, and have experience working with onshore and offshore QA teams.

Here's what you can expect on a typical day:

  • We'll start each day with a scrum, working together to understand responsibilities, ID any issues, and communicate coding priorities. You'll participate in all phases of the Software Test Life Cycle, including requirements gathering, test planning, scheduling, testing, defect tracking, and reporting.
  • You'll design test plans and data, automate test cases, and capture defects for large-scale, complex software systems. Working in two-week sprints, you must keep up with timelines and coding standards.
  • You'll build and maintain the software testing framework and monitor test performance, always thinking of new ways to simplify and improve our processes. No detail is too small to ignore. Quality matters most. You'll do regression testing on applications and various software components.
  • You'll design, monitor, and analyze quality assurance metrics, including defects, defect count, test results, and statuses.
  • We work collaboratively, so you will collaborate across the organization to complete manual and automated tests to deliver products with efficiency and speed.
  • You're always learning new codes and eager to figure things out as you learn.
  • You have 5-8 years of experience in relevant skills gained and developed in the same or similar role.


  • You'll have a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent.
  • 7+ years of software quality assurance experience.
  • Good understanding of Payroll software a plus.
  • Test Planning & Coordination knowledge.
  • Experience working in a large international development team environment.
  • Must have experience working with onshore and offshore QA teams.
  • Agile/Scrum Methodology knowledge.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using all Microsoft productivity tools (ex: WORD, MS Project, and Excel)
  • Hands-on experience with Web Services testing using SOAP UI / Ready API, Postman or other test tools is required.
  • Experience with SQL Databases, such as Oracle, SQL Server, or other.  Ability to create, update and maintain queries for test setup or troubleshooting analysis is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong self-motivation and self-starting skills/self-starter.
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with little supervision.
  • Ability to own tasks and follow them through to completion.
  • Ability to take on new responsibilities and technologies.
  • Ability to effectively work with non-technical end users. 


  • Comprehensive knowledge of all regulatory tax and administrative needs for a payroll system.
  • Experience testing payroll software that supports multi-state tax laws, international payroll, garnishments and year-end processing.
