Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Lead PLC Controls Technician at the subject matter expert level for our team of multi-skilled technicians in an Electrical Apparatus manufacturing facility in Waukesha, WI.

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift schedules are available.

  • Work hours for each shift may vary based on critical business demands, and may include Saturday hours as needed to support production.

These production maintenance technicians are responsible for guiding the manufacturing maintenance team on all PLC related issues , responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive and corrective maintenance on the production equipment and systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.

These positions are also responsible for providing leadership to the maintenance staff and directing the daily workflow of the team, and perform the daily function of supervising and developing the multi-skilled technical workforce.

  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the strong organizational/time management skills needed to be successful in this role.

  • Provides instruction, mentors and trains less skilled technicians as needed.

  • Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve electrical problems, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems.

The Lead PLC Controls Technician must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting and repair of 480V 3 phase circuits, PLCs, VFDs, and low voltage controls.

  • Calibrating instrumentation equipment.

  • Designing, drawing and programing ladder logic for PLC used in testing.

  • Retrieving archived prints and designs from electronic storage system.

  • Documenting and electronically filing prints and test documentations.

  • Develops and monitors work assignments for other technicians and coaches as appropriate.

  • Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on CNC Machinery, mechanical systems, controls, and operating systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Responds to and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.

  • Recommends activities to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.

  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations. Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tag out procedures and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

  • Exhibits strong leadership skills, such as motivation, delegation, ownership, leading by example, well-developed organizational skills, excellent communication skills, etc.

  • Fluent with Inventory and Materials Management concepts, such as inventory control and analysis, material lead times, cost analysis, usage analysis, etc.

  • Promotes and adheres to the AECOM Safety Structure.

  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Eight years of experience as an industrial electronics or electrical maintenance technician in a manufacturing, production, or research and development setting, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our clients location.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working with PLC's, including A/B and Control Logix, Siemens S7, Eaton

  2. Experience with AB HMI programming including panelbuilder 32 and Factorytalk Machine edition software.

  3. Experience troubleshooting, repairing and setting parameters on AB Variable Frequency Drives

  4. Experience troubleshooting repairing and setting parameters on Siemens Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

  5. Experience working with RSLinx Communications software and familiarity with Controlnet and Ethernet.

  6. Experience working with 480VAC including control circuits 4-20ma, 0-5V and 0-10V.

  7. Experience working with ladder Logic programming and troubleshooting on Allen Bradley PLC's

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
