Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented and high-energized Project Specialist for projects in the Central Valley and Coast.


  • Provide technical oversight of AECOM and subcontractor field teams performing fieldwork related to pipeline verification and abandonment activities, facility abandonment scoping/surveying, and remediation construction.

  • The project specialist is a key decision maker in the field and shall provide guidance and direction to AECOM staff and subcontractors to address complex project problems, health and safety concerns, changes to scope or schedule, items pertaining to regulatory compliance.

  • The Project Specialist will manage and oversee all aspects of the fieldwork, including health and safety, data gathering, data reporting and internal communications with subcontractors and project manager.

  • Authorize changes in fieldwork scope in accordance with established project plans, scope of work and subcontractor agreements.

  • Oversee daily monitor of tasks completed, equipment onsite, subcontractor staff onsite, visitors onsite and sampling and permitting compliance.

  • Generate weekly and daily progress reports noting percent work complete, changes in scope of work, and/or fieldwork delays.

  • Assistance the Project Manager with development of weekly fieldwork schedules and subcontractor resource assignments.

  • Implement changes to project plans per changes in site conditions to ensure compliance with regulatory and health and safety requirements.

  • Primary steward for Management of Change and incident command lead.

  • Competent person on site for excavations, confined space work, and hot work permitting.

  • Steward of as-built drawings and modifications to design plans based on input from engineering.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • 2+ years' experience

  • Must have a strong understanding of the construction industry regulatory framework with respect to health and safety protocols, procedures and reporting requirements.

  • Must have great written, oral, and communication skills.

  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to follow documentation protocols.

  • Must be a self-starter and able to drive project task forward with minimal supervision.

  • Must possess strong leadership skills and work well in a team environment.

  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical.

  • Must be able to walk at minimum 20 25 miles per week during fieldwork assignments.

  • Must be able to work in hot weather in accordance with AECOMs and OSHAs work-rest standard schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree Preferred

  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) training and have current 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training (if applicable).

  • Completion of 8-hr HAZWOPER Supervisor training or acquire within six months of employment.
