Job Summary

Drive data protection and privacy requirements from the product management side. Interface with customers to enable incorporation of their data privacy and data protection requirements into the development of the product. The candidate will act as a Data Privacy and Protection expert for the product management team and coordinate with the different units within SAP to drive solutions for the new requirements on data protection and privacy. The candidate will support the product development of Data Access Transparency and associated controls, understand and implement the necessary policies, procedures, standards and guidelines that apply to achieve the full insight into data access transparency and controls. The candidate will work with customers Risk and Compliance departments, with a focus on ensuring the Privacy Program’s compliance with all laws, regulations. In addition, provide oversight and quality assurance checks for the various policies, procedures, standards, Fand guidelines that support Privacy Programs. The Privacy Specialist is expected to perform many of these quality assurance checks personally, but should also align and work with outside vendors. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be a part of the product management team, providing expert input and requirements from the data protection and data privacy perspectives
  • Work closely with the customers to establish detailed data protection and privacy requirements that need to be fulfilled by the product
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal and regulatory considerations, including awareness of new or revised laws and regulations related to the privacy and security of sensitive information and to help capture those requirements into the development of the product
  • Provide guidance on the data protection and privacy topic, and drive co innovation/partnering initiatives
  • Perform research by interfacing with customers, vendors and analysts, and by evaluating and analyzing existing and upcoming legal frameworks and regulations in the data protection and data privacy domains
  • Help customers in understanding their compliance requirements related to relevant national and international data protection and privacy laws, and assist customers in the definition of privacy policies accordingly


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Law, Business Administration or equivalent educational or professional experience and/or qualifications. An advanced degree is preferred
  • Experience working with internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy laws and regulations
  • Understanding of the data protection and privacy program elements including privacy audits, privacy policies, privacy impact assessments, privacy governance
  • Understanding of technologies related to data protection and privacy including security monitoring, data encryption, data masking, tokenization, identity management and access control, data protection gateways
  • Understanding of market research, data collection and analysis
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with prior project management experience. 
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written) are mandatory.
  • Excellent communication skills & technical writing skills
  • Must be able to work onsite in Palo Alto, CA
