Knowledge & Skills Requirements
 
Requirement Sr. Manager
BA/BS degree is required, preferably in a technical field or equivalent.
Five or more years of experience in software or technology company two or more years of experience in product marketing or similar function.
Experience in B2B products or services focused on direct or enterprise sales model.
Technical background or aptitude.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
Knowledge of business fundamentals including sales processes, go to market strategies, etc.
Strong track record of successfully marketing products to market and working with cross functional sales teams.
Ability to synthesise products and product lines into consistent company capability.
Ability to deliver compete NPI on a product or capability.
Ability to market products or capabilities across multiple countries.
 
Success is Measure on the Following Factors
Planning and execution of new Product Introduction (NPI) Gate 4 processes (definition available separately) including the following:
Ongoing NPI planning for products in-scope for this role, especially focused on content positioning.
Execution of NPI for the following audiences:
o Clients
o Sales
o Inbound & Outbound Marketing
o Sales Enablement / Sales Operations
Activation of all creative content and assets.
 
Success of these role is measure on the following attributes:
Number of salespeople fully enables to sell responsible products
Number of case studies generated for responsible products
Number of leads generated from product content activation as measured a) primarily in Sales Accepted Leads (Gained Access,) and b) secondarily by Revenue from such Leads.
General Job Description Scope of Responsibilities for Sr. Product Marketing Manager
Product Marketing is responsible for the following responsibilities and deliverables:
1. Product Positioning: Responsible for defining a product's positioning (i.e., how we want the target market to "perceive" the product). Product positioning includes the establishment of:
- Competitive product differentiation/positioning(s)
- Unique selling propositions (USP)
- Key features and benefits
Product positioning must be established for each new version of each product produced. Add-on components for a product do not need separate product positioning defined. The full product positioning is specified in a Product Positioning Document (PPD) or Product Positioning Value Document (PPVD.)
2. Product Marketing Development. The product marketing manager creates the New Product Introduction (NPI) plan for their Products, and assists company's marketing communication team's creation and production of deliverables, in the following categories:
a. Collateral & sales tools development: Planning and content development of all product collateral and sales tools to all groups that needs such tools.
b. Digital development: The Product Marketing Manager delivers sales information and tools via, a) Intranet website for internal sales staff, b) Intranet website for partners, and c) Internet website for end-customers. The product marketing manager is responsible to oversee the development and management of the product sections of these websites as created by marketing communications.
c. Product Evaluations: the Product Marketing Manager provides for and manages evaluation and competitive analysis for internal use at customer sites, partner sites, and marketing events.
d. Other Communications: The Product Marketing Manager must regularly support the direct and indirect sales teams with product information and sales tools deliverables to better enable sales to perform. This includes:
i) Regular communications of product and company events
ii) Delivery of new sales tools
3. Product Marketing Evangelism & Training: Responsible for product evangelism and sales training for the internal sales teams. Evangelism means that one is the "expert" on the product, and is responsible for communicating "expertise" on the product's positioning, benefits, and features to influencers inside and outside of the company in a sales context. This includes:
a. Partners and internal sales staff.
b. User groups, special interest group (SIGs,) and online forums.
Must be capable to communicate in a pre-sales context:
a. Product knowledge. This includes a full understanding of the functionality of the products, and to be able to use/demo the product.
b. Product benefits. This includes a successful communication of the product's features and benefits, or the positioning of the product.
c. Competitive product knowledge. This includes knowledge and experience to know the competitive advantage of our products over the competition; understanding the strengths and weaknesses of competitive products, or even to know how to communicate the key competitive advantages of the products--in essence, to create and evangelize "fear, uncertainty, and doubt" (FUD.)
4. Product Launches: The Product Marketing Manager is responsible to contribute product knowledge and content for marketing deliverables and promotions, and executed by marketing services. (Note, product marketing only provides content; and does not run these activities.) Areas of consideration include the creation of marketing launch activities such as:
a. Direct marketing: The direct promotion activities are those marketing events that directly communicate with the customer. Direct marketing includes promotions for direct mail, email, etc. and, if applicable, any special direct sales offers, such as pricing promotions, etc.
b. Events: These include webinars, seminars, trade-shows, user groups, conferences, etc. The Product Marketing Manager is responsible to provide the plan for the corporate events manager to execute. This plan should include the definition of the platform were relevant, scope of the event, and content platform such as producing the presentation, demo, etc.
c. Channel Marketing: Channel marketing includes the management of a channel program in order to effectively deliver product support sales materials and joint marketing activities for the company's channel sales manager to use to increase the sales effectiveness of their partner accounts. These include media kits, definition of channel promotions such as bundles, third-party add-ons promotions, etc.
d. Public Relations: Public relations include brand and company awareness activities through media channel used by the target market audience. This include press releases, press briefings, analyst meetings, and other events that create a presence in related media channels.
e. Incentives or Promotions: To define and make possible any and all activities for promoting the sales of products.
Budgets
No budgetary responsibilities are associated with this position. Marketing budgets are controlled by the marketing programs manager, to whom the Product Marketing Manager may work with if budget expenses are needed.
