Senior Python Developer – Cloud Data Warehouse Engineer

Job Summary


ADP is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join ADP’s Enterprise Service Data Warehousing and Analytics Team.  As a key member of the team, you will design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and datasets consumed by analysts, data scientists, report authors and used virtually within ADP applications. As part of a global team, you will work closely with data architects, analysts, and key stakeholders to design and develop complex data solutions involving various approaches to data acquisition (streaming, event triggers, ETL, etc.), implementing CDC rules, transformation logic and defining target data models.

The ideal candidate is a naturally curious, self-motivated, detail-oriented individual who is comfortable with an iterative approach to problem solving and solution building. The candidate must be willing to drive discussions to identify and elicit requirements from stakeholders rather than develop from pre-defined requirements.  A readiness to bring stakeholders together and leverage previous experience to hone a high-level request into a fully operationalized solution is a must.  Flexibility and a desire to continuously develop new skills is key to success in this fast- paced, agile environment.



Primary Activities and Responsibilities

  • Work with other team members to understand the business challenges and propose the best technical solutions.
  • Work with Data Architects to provide input on data models for all relevant tiers (Staging, Refined, Fully Abstracted)
  • Design and implement data pipelines to support a wide range of Data as a Service and Analytics use cases.
  • Performance tuning of Spark jobs.
  • Write automation code to create and configure data acquisition processes.
  • Create an end to end fully automated analytics production flow, from Data ingestion to data and analytics ready for consumption.
  • Participate in early-adoption and proof of concept activities as appropriate
  • Foster and promote enterprise analytics and data-driven, strategic decision making
  • Demonstrate flexibility in meeting the changing needs and priorities of the projects and teams


Knowledge and Skills


  • Python or any other language used in big data and analytics development
  • Solid experience with PySpark, Spark SQL and various python libraries.
  • Proficiency with AWS cloud.
  • Experience with entire SDLC and working with tools such as Git, Jenkins, Artifactory.
  • Experience in Data Engineering pipelines with Spark or other technologies.
  • Experience ingesting data from databases to clould based data lakes such as Databricks.
  • Experience with CDC ingestion mechanism and real-time ETL
  • Understanding of file formats like Parquet, Avro, Hudi/Delta/Iceberg
  • AWS experience with services like S3, EMR, Kinesis, Glue, Athena, Glue, Step Functions, DMS, Lambda
  • Strong hands-on experience creating big data applications using Hadoop, Spark, Columnar/MPP databases, Kafka, Spark structured streaming.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science preferred.
  • 5+ years of related experience
