Technical Project Management is responsible for the planning, organizing and managing of activities to bring about the successful completion of specific IT project goals and IT objectives in a matrixed resource environment. Software Development Lifecycles (SDLC) supported include both traditional waterfall and agile methodologies including Scrum. The Project Manager provides leadership over all aspects of the IT project from the planning phase through deployment into production. The functional groups that the Project Manager influences and partners with in a typical IT project may include but are not limited to Development, Product Management, Service, Implementation, Infrastructure and IT Support.

 

The Technical Project Manager is directly involved in the management of environment procurement, deployment, installation and alignment as well as application development and support. Technology platforms vary by product and project managed. Well versed in Product Mgmt, Application Development, Quality Testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Takes ownership for the project process, project deliverables and communication frameworks including administration of project collaboration tools and document repositories. Provides SDLC process expertise and works directly with project sponsors and key stakeholders on the applicable deliverables.
  • In collaboration with project teams, create and maintain project plans and schedules including deliverables across all impacted areas of assigned projects. Provide oversight and leadership during project execution to ensure alignment with project deadlines. May function as a Scrum Master on agile projects utilizing the scrum methodology.
  • Facilitate the definition, management and negotiation of project scope and scope change controls between the project team and key business stakeholders for traditional SDLC projects. Works directly with the Product Owner/Proxy for backlog management and prioritization for Scrum teams.
  • Tracks and resolves project issues/impediments and team conflicts. Facilitate escalation of issues un-resolvable by the project team to the appropriate business or IT sponsor and track to successful completion.
  • Track and report project progress to stakeholders and senior management. Prepare status reports and facilitate project meetings as defined in the SDLC.
  • Manage project resource budget and address discrepancies between baseline and actual time reporting and expenses.
  • Identify risks in conjunction with the project team and stakeholders. Work with the project team and stakeholders (based on the risk) to define mitigation plans and ensure plans are tracked and status of the risks are reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Maintain Project Management skills in alignment with industry standards. Monitors innovations in Project Management and explores usefulness and adoption. Contributes back to the SDLC Center of Excellence (COE) with lessons learned/best practices.
  • Facilitate Release Planning

 

 

Qualifications Required:

  • 5+ years of Directly Related Project Management Experience
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent low to medium complexity projects from concept to delivery
  • Knowledge of Project & Process Management -- including industry standard project mgmt and quality mgmt methodologies
  • Experience with Project Management Tools such as Rally, Jira, Planview, MS Project, MS Office and Sharepoint
  • Technology Knowledge -- ability to understand the technical solution and question the project team as to solution decisions, estimates, etc
  • Project Mgmt certification preferred; broad knowledge of PM processes and project life cycle methodologies
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent in Education & Experience preferred
