The New York City Campaign Finance Board seeks a Social Media Manager to create, curate, and distribute organic content and paid campaigns across Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and other emerging channels. This role will manage both voter-facing (@NYCvotes) and official agency (@NYCCFB) platforms, creating content designed to reach and engage a variety of audiences, including New York voters and potential voters, candidates, elected officials, members of the press, and other influencers and thought leaders. The position reports to the Content Strategy Manager and works closely with the Content Writer and other colleagues throughout the division, including team members in design and production as well as staff focused on public relations, partnerships, and research. The Social Media Manager will play a critical role in helping the agency and the city of New York increase voter participation, with a particular focus on increasing turnout in youth and immigrant communities in the 2020 and 2021 elections.

Salary range is $53,000 - $60,000.



  • Manage the agency’s social media calendar and its channels and assets, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and emerging channels.
  • Grow and engage existing and new digital audiences, on these platforms and others, and build an online community dedicated to voter and civic engagement.
  • Create and post content that advances our goals, mission, and brand, and reflects topics, election dates, and priorities articulated in our editorial calendar.
  • Set up, monitor, and optimize paid social media campaigns, including audience targeting, creative testing, and reporting on results; collaborate with content and press teams on organic social media campaigns
  • Collaborate with Content Writer, designers, videographers, and other specialists – both in-house staff and outside vendors – to support planned multi-channel campaigns.
  • Monitor and respond to online comments and conversations; escalate concerns or issues to Content Strategy Manager for guidance as needed.
  • With Partnerships & Outreach team, research and engage partners and influencers – paid and volunteer – to amplify and support agency campaigns and initiatives.
  • Create content and interact with followers in a way that embodies the agency’s values of equity and inclusion for all audiences, including the use of subtitles / open captioning, translation, ASL interpretation, or other modalities to ensure accessibility.
  • Use data and insights, including click-through, conversion, and engagement rates, to inform and evolve social media strategy and continually improve our effectiveness.
  • Stay current on which channels are working to reach our target audiences; research and propose which channels or handles we should add to, or remove from, our portfolio.

 Essential Skills:

  • Strong instinct for creating content that commands attention in digital spaces, particularly social media channels.
  • A clear communicator; able to prioritize and present key information, often in rapid response.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • A thinker and a maker; able to both conceptualize and create content that achieves goals and drives action, both independently and in partnership with creative specialists.
  • Curious and plugged in to evolving trends, platforms, and approaches; actively seeks out and proposes new ideas to help achieve our goals.
  • Level-headed under pressure, with excellent prioritization and time management skills.
  • Experience creating content for diverse audiences; experience working with youth and immigrant communities, including facility with language(s) other than English, would be a significant asset.
  • Current, in-depth knowledge of social media platforms and best practices, particularly on Instagram and/or Facebook
  • Experience managing, analyzing, and reporting on data and metrics with platforms such as Sprout, HootSuite, Sprnklr, and Tweetdeck.


  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-3+ years of work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and use digital communication platforms effectively.
  • Strong judgment and tact.
  • Willingness to occasionally be available outside of regular work hours to support breaking news, election dates, or other time-sensitive needs.
  • Pursuant to Department of Citywide Administrative Services Directive No. 2020-2, New York City residency must be obtained within six months after the Mayor rescinds the State of Emergency under Executive Order 98 (and extended by subsequent Executive Orders). If that time period has passed, residency must be obtained within 90 days of starting the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in marketing/advertising, public relations, media, journalism, politics, government, advocacy, or a related field.
